Are you for real?

Ok, I am back with a vengeance people! With the holidays, school, children, etc. I am afraid that I got off track with the blog. For my trusty readers, my parents and husband, I am very sorry! But, I'm back in the game now so it's on!

I just want to make sure that you are aware of a ballot measure that is hoping to make its way to voters in November. It is called the "Personhood" movement. It essentially outlaws birth control and any abortions. This movement is giving right to a fetus. Should this ridiculous bill pass, and a girl is raped and impregnated, then she has no recourse but to give birth to that child. Yes, that is what it says.

Now, as a mother of two teenaged boys, I am very much a safe sex advocate. Do I wish that they would abstain, yes! Do I suggest very strongly that they abstain? Hell yes! But I am not a fool. I know that I cannot be with them 24 hours a day, as hard as I try. So, if they get into trouble, I want them, and the girl, to have the option to make that choice. It is not up to anyone outside of my family nor is it their business to help us decide what the best choice is for their future. I do not need, nor will request, any government entity to assist me in this matter.

As a woman, I find this proposition to be insulting. Republican Mike Reynolds seems to believe that he is more in touch with his feminine side than I am so therefore he can tell me what to do with my feminine reproductive system. I find this a bit difficult to swallow. Unless he has a uterus, I am less likely to believe that he has any kind of idea of what I should do in any situation.

As a human, I am insulted by this proposition as well. Do not push your beliefs down my throat or up my... well, you get the point. I do believe that Christ is my Lord and Savior. While we might not be as good of friends as we should be, I also believe that it is neither mine nor Mike Reynolds' place to judge.

Please, as an Oklahoman, please contact your Senators, Congressional members and anyone else who can help derail this incredibly ridiculous waste of time and tax money. Surely there is something else we can waste our tax dollars on, right teachers?

I will leave you with the link to read more about this absurdity and get off of my soap box. For now...
